Chick with a Whip

This place was DEFINITELY inspired by the themed clubs and house parties I was introduced to by my friend Sonja in Berlin, confirmed to me by the date; 2006 was the first year I visited her in her home country. :)

Speaking of 2006, bear in mind the date when you read the non-PC terminology in this strip! I don't intend to change it, because it's a sign of the times, and a sign of how quickly an issue that most people never even thought about can change and permeate our culture. I think it's a pretty neat reminder.

Actually, I'm curious: when did the term "trans" begin to replace the more antiquated terms that cis folk (and probably trans folk too, come to think of it) used to toss around? I'd love to see a timeline of the popular usage of different terms relating to this topic in American culture (American because it's the culture I'm most familiar with).*

*Edit! Thanks so much to those of you who contributed to the comments section below. Trans is not a word that's been used to REPLACE terms like the one Jamie used; my apologies. It's... way more complicated than I thought (though I should have expected!). I'm still learning, and I appreciate the civil feedback and education so many of you take the time to share here. Please feel free to click the "comments" button below to read on, or to add your own feedback.

And thank you for your patience with me while I learn. I'm trying not to change too much of the original content of these old strips, under the assumption that the majority of the people who are reading them understand that these are strips I created in the early 2000s, while I was learning not only how to tell a story, how to draw and write, but how the world works, how relationships work, how people work. I'm still learning these things, and I'm grateful for the help my readers have contributed along the way.
